IELTS is a standardised test administered by the British Council and IDP to test how proficient you are in the English language.
The test is a requirement for people who want to work or study in a country where English is the official language of communication such as the UK, the US, Canada, and Australia.
IELTS is divided into four parts: Listening, Writing, Reading, and Speaking. There are two types of IELTS: General Training and Academic. Both have the same modules in Listening and Speaking tests but different in Writing and Reading.
Whether you write Academic or General Training depends on what you want to use the test for.
IELTS is not difficult if you prepare well. As a Nigerian whose country speaks English, you should be able to ace the test with adequate preparation. The questions are usually simple and straightforward.
There is no passing score for IELTS. You’re graded on a band scale. Band 1 means you are a non-user of English language, while band 9 means you are an expert user of the English language. Each institution and country sets their own band requirement. So, it’s worth checking the score required before you sit for the test. With the score in mind, you know what to aim for.
You can take the IELTS as many times as you want. The organisers of IELTS do not impose any limit. The only thing you should be concerned about is the fee you will pay every time you write.
